Bothnia Gospel 100 åkte till Texas!
För omkring två år sedan startade projektet Bothnia Gospel 100, ett musikaliskt samarbete mellan de tre Korsholmskörerna Helsingbykören, Kvevlax Sångkör och Singsby Sångkör. Även sångare från Wasa Bygdekör lockades med i projektet. Långt innan de första sångövningarna startade hade körledare Jenny Mendelin jobbat med att samla gospelmaterial för att utmana körerna i en för koristerna helt ny genre. Gospel i både nordisk och amerikansk tappning var till en början en stor utmaning för alla. I projektet kom omkring åttio sångare att delta. Projektdragarna hade fixat finansiering och gjort upp ett digert program. Hösten 2017 och våren 2018 gavs flera gospelkonserter runt om i Österbotten och Sydösterbotten. Avslutning på detta projekt hade man planerat skulle ske på gospelns hemmaplan, den amerikanska södern, sommaren 2018.
Vårt resmål San Antonio ligger i delstaten Texas och är USA:s sjunde största stad med omkring 1,4 miljoner invånare. Staden breder ut sig på ett stort område med låghusbebyggelse, det är endast i centrum som det finns skyskrapor. Till San Antonio vallfärdar många turister eftersom det är här en stor del av Texas historia har växt fram. Staden är idag en betydelsefull militärstad medan företag inom läkemedelsbranschen hör till de stora arbetsgivarna.

Bothnia Gospel 100 went to Texas!
About two years ago, the Bothnia Gospel 100 project started, a musical collaboration between the three Korsholm choirs, Helsingbykör, Kvevlax Sångkör and Singsby Sångkör. Also singers from Wasa Bygdekör was attracted to the project. Long before the first rehearsals started, choir leader Jenny Mendelin had been working to collect music material to challenge the choirs in a completely new genre. The project initially involved about eighty participating singers. In the autumn of 2017 and spring of 2018, several gospel concerts were given in and around Ostrobothnia (the western part of Finland).
We completed the project on the gospel home ground, the American south, in the summer of 2018. Our destination was San Antonio, which is located in the state of Texas and is the United States seventh largest city with about 1.4 million inhabitants. The city spreads out on a large area with low-rise buildings, it is only in the center that there are skyscrapers. To San Antonio many tourists come, as this is where much of Texas history has emerged. The city is today an important military city, while companies in the pharmaceutical industry are among the major employers.
